Your chain's pitch is usually printed on a small sticker on the guide bar, near the drive sprocket, or on the original chain packaging (e.g. ".325", "3/8", or "3/8 LP"). Bar length is measured in inches, typically stamped on the bar itself.

What happens when the grinding bits wear out?
You get 3 grinding bits in the box. All three are the same size and work on both .325" and 3/8" chains, so there's nothing to match or swap. Like any sharpening tool, bits wear down over time. When yours do, just grab a fresh pack here and keep going.
Does it sharpen the rakers (depth gauges) too?
No, and we'd rather be upfront about it. Emblis™ sharpens the cutting teeth. The rakers — the small bumps in front of each tooth — need a flat file and a depth gauge. They only need a quick touch-up every few sharpenings. Our Raker Kit has everything you need.
Do I need to remove the chain to sharpen it?
No. The Emblis™ Chainsaw Sharpener clamps directly onto your chainsaw bar. The chain stays on — you just turn the handle and it sharpens each tooth in place.
Will it work with my chainsaw brand?
Yes, as long as your chain is .325" or 3/8" pitch and your bar is 4" to 22" long. That covers most home chainsaws, including Stihl, Husqvarna, Echo, and Oregon chains. Not sure of your pitch? It's stamped on your bar near the base.
I've never sharpened a chain before. Is this hard to use?
Not at all. Set the angle once (25–35°) and the tool holds it identical on every tooth — no experience or measuring needed. If you can turn a handle, you can use this.
How long does it take to sharpen a full chain?
About 5–10 minutes. Each tooth takes roughly 3–5 seconds.
Does it actually get the chain sharp — or just "good enough"?
It sharpens every tooth at the same angle, so the whole chain cuts evenly and straight. Most users say it cuts better than what they get back from the shop.
How many times can I sharpen one chain with this tool?
A chain can typically be sharpened 8–10 times before the teeth are too worn down. After that, you'd replace the chain — but by then the Emblis™ has already paid for itself.
Is it safe to use?
Yes. The tool holds the angle for you, so you're not guessing with a hand file. A sharp chain is also a safer chain — dull chains increase kickback risk.
Is it worth it if I only use my chainsaw occasionally?
One local sharpening usually costs $8–$15. The Emblis™ pays for itself in about 6 sharpenings — even if you only cut a few times a year.
